Music of almost every genre runs incessantly through the veins of Louisville and you can take your pick during your Louisville Kentucky travel depending on which way the pendulum swings.

May be, the live music scene in Louisville has not received as much attention as it should have, but it is a great place for live music as good as several other American cities. Year round, there are a number of ticketed concerts and an equally large number of free concerts from major bands.

When you are visiting Louisville during the Kentucky Derby festival, you have the opportunity to enjoy the Kroger Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront. A number of local as well as national bands hold concerts here during this time. Apart from music you also have the opportunity to watch the Great Balloon Glimmer, the AT&T Volleyball classic and the Run for the Rose during this period.

April through September the Waterfront Park hosts free concerts at the Harbor Lawn every Wednesday featuring national and local bands. Food stands and a cash bar add to your experience at the event. However, you may need to bring your own lawn chairs and blankets to relax when the concert is on.

August is the month for the Kentucky State Fair when you have the option of attending close to a dozen free concerts. The venue is the Cardinal Stadium. Typically these concerts feature popular national acts or lesser-known acts, and particularly those without a recent new album.

Admission to the fair itself is priced, but the concerts are free. Seating at the concert however, is on a first come first served basis. Arriving early will ensure that you get the best possible seats.
