Louisville Zoo Hours Information

There is a lot to explore when visiting in Louisville. Notable for the Kentucky Derby and Churchill Downs, Louisville has plenty to offer. However, a vacation to the city is not complete without a visit to Louisville Zoo.

Just 15 minutes from downtown Louisville, the zoo is a wonderful place to take the whole family. It currently houses more than 1,300 animals in a diverse range of geographical areas. In addition to animals, this "State Zoo of Kentucky" is also home to a 4-D SpongeBob SquarePants ride, a climbing adventure course, a water park, several playgrounds and a carousel, all of which make the zoo a fun and comfortable place for families and children.

When is the time to visit Louisville Zoo? Louisville Zoo is open throughout the year, with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Days. The specific hours are from 10am to 5pm (exit by 6pm) from March to Labor Day and from 10am to 4pm (exit by 5pm) from September to February. The hours will extend in June and July.

Visitors can spend more time at the zoo this summer during special Family Twilight Hours. The zoo will open from 10am to 7pm (exit by 8pm) on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. During this time, zoo members can enjoy special discounts and ride privileges after 6pm, including free carousel rides and an extra 10% discount in the Gift Shop on Thursdays, use of the ZooTram shuttle on Fridays and free carousel rides on Saturdays. Please note that extended hours aren't valid on Saturday, June 12, 2011, as there is Zoofari. The zoo will close at 2pm on that day.

Calistoga Splash Park at Glacier Run opens during regular zoo hours from May 1 to mid September if weather permits. It closes 30 minutes prior to the zoo's closing time. For more info about the Splash Park, click here:

There are various activities or shows happening at the zoo every day. Pack yourself with the hours info, so that you won't miss them. Please note that all events time are subject to change without notice.

- Elephant Aerobics - 11am & 4pm (The show will be performed on weekends only during September and October.)

- Gorilla Program - 2:30pm

- Giraffe Feeding - 11:30am & 2:30pm

- HerpAquarium Program - 11am & 2:30pm from Monday to Friday

- Islands Program - 10:15am & 3pm

- Lorikeet Feeding - This exhibit is performed on weekends from November to February at Lorikeet Landing on the condition that the temperature is 55 degrees and high. You can purchase nectar at the exhibit, with a fee of $2 per cup.

- Meerkat Enrichment - 3pm

- Pygmy Hippo Program - 11:30am (seasonal)

- Seal and Sea Lions Exhibit - until 4:30pm every day

- Seal and Sea Training Demonstrations - 10:30am, 2pm & 3:45pm

- Tiger Training - 11:45am & 3pm

- Zip Line and Climbing Wall - 10am until 30 minutes before zoo closes (open for weekends starting from March 19)
