Louisville Slugger Museum

If you are a baseball enthusiast, the Louisville Slugger Museum should figure in your 'must see' list when you travel Louisville. This is the place where the best of base ball bats have ever been built and they have been doing that for decades now.

The Slugger museum is in Down Town Louisville, Kentucky and at the entrance to the museum visitors are greeted with a gigantic baseball bat weighing 68,000 pounds and measuring 120 feet. At first sight it might appear that the bat is leaning against the adjacent manufacturing plant of Hillerich & Bradsby.

A closer examination would however tell you that the bat is free standing and there indeed is a gap between the two buildings, few inches though. Adding to your experience is largest baseball glove in the world - the 21 ton glove sculpted in limestone by local artists.

Visitor information for the museum

Visitors are initially treated to a short film titled "The Heart of the Game" which features some of the greatest hits in baseball. From the theater you reach the main section of the museum through an underground locker room.

The Oval room represents the main section of the museum which also resembles a playing field. At the Oval room you will find on display bats used by various legends, and obviously all of them emerged from the Slugger stable.

Apart from the bats other memorabilia are also displayed here. Opportunity to learn several other aspects of baseball bat making are also presented to the visitor here.

The tour of the museum ends with a walk through the manufacturing facility that was set up in 1859 primarily for purposes other than bat manufacturing. In modern times the Slugger factory produces over 2,000 baseball bats every single day to cater to a growing market in the United States of America and elsewhere. This museum can truly enhance your Louisville Kentucky travel experience.
