Louisville Extreme Park

Ranking among one of America's best skate parks is the Louisville Extreme Park which opened its 40,000 square foot facility in April, 2002. This park features a vert ramp in wood, rest rooms and the skating surface itself in concrete. The 24 foot full pipe adds to the awesome features of the park and offers great balance between transition style, street style and vert. While the Louisville Metro Government owns the park, the Metro Parks are responsible for the operations.

The Louisville Extreme park is open to visitors on all seven days of the week from 6 in the morning to 11 in the night. Once at the park, avid skaters can choose between skateboarding, in-line skating or even biking.

The facilities are also tailored to suit every skill level and all ages. The Downtown location makes the park easily accessible from almost every part of the City by car and bus, or self-powered means through the RiverWalk and its connecting multi-use paths. Getting to this park during your Louisville travel will thus pose no challenge at all.

Ever since its opening, the park has been receiving a steady stream of patrons from the local communities as well as national and international visitors. On any given day, one can find young professionals, teenagers and even young children engaged in skateboarding, in-line skating and bicycling at the park with the tiny tots under the watchful eyes of their parents.

However, all these have been possible only after hectic lobbying by local bicyclists and skateboarders in 1999. These efforts finally yielded results and the local officials found a convenient site in downtown Louisville. In 2000 the likely users of the park got an opportunity to communicate their precise needs and aspirations through public input sessions and what resulted was the unique Louisville extreme park.

At the end, skating enthusiasts and fans from around the region demonstrated their love for the facility with an attendance of close to 10,000 during the first major event at the park 'The Tony Hawk Gigantic Skatepark tour'.

That the event was held on a hot summer day adds to the significance of the large enough attendance. 2003 and 2004 saw further additions to the Park's facilities resolving some of the complaints and making it an even more affable place for sports lovers. Be there to enjoy these facilities during your Louisville KY travel.
