Kentucky Derby Museum
Being at the Kentucky Derby is among the best things that can happen during your Louisville Kentucky travel. But, when the schedule does not match, the next best is to be at the Kentucky Derby Museum. The museum promises to take you through a tour of all that is relevant to the Kentucky Derby right from the day of the foal and through to the winner's circle.
Located right on the historic Churchill Downs, the Kentucky Derby Museum plays host to no less than 200,000 guests annually providing them a first hand experience of the singular event that has brought so much fame to Kentucky. It is only natural therefore, that the museum strives always to provide you with a lasting impression of hospitality, tradition and pride.
Apart from the activities at the museum, the extended services from the museum include an outreach program aimed at educating the younger generation on the history, economics and significance of Kentucky derby. The program is offered free through the public and parochial schools in the region.

J.Graham Brown, who was the chairman of Churchill Downs' Board of Directors is credited with the initiative, and means that culminated in the Kentucky Derby Museum which was thrown open to the public in 1985. The land which holds the museum came in the form of donation from Churchill Down. In more recent times, while the museum enjoys strong relationships with Churchill Down, no administrative control are exercised.
1999 saw the museum undertaking a 10 million dollar renovation which included a 10,000 square foot expansion. This project was completed in early 2000. The funding for this project was also secured from the J.Graham Brown Foundation. Churchill Down, on its part, once again donated land required for the expansion.
