Jefferson Mall Louisville

Southern Louisville is home for the Jefferson Mall and is the only major mall for the Jefferson Country. It is also among 6 regional shopping centers with a floor space of over 400,000 square foot serving the west and South County. Interestingly, all the other 5 shopping centers of similar or larger size are in the East County which is considered wealthier.

The Mall was opened in 1978 and the initial anchors included JC Penney, Shillito's, Sears, and Steward Dry Goods. This 936,000 square foot mall was developed by Richard E.Jacobs group from Cleveland.

The year 2000 saw the CBL& associate Properties of Chattanooga gaining ownership of the Jefferson Mall. Despite its size and perhaps a degree of uniqueness as being among the largest in the region, was not very popular compared to the smaller malls like Oxmoor Center.

Not getting updated and the absence of a food court also contributed to Jefferson's woes. These developments lead to a full scale renovation beginning 2003 and new entrances also came into place.

Presently JC Penney, Dillard's, Sears, and Macy's are the main anchors at the Mall which has 923,000 square feet leased space and 120 permanent stores.

When visiting a local mall is on your Louisville, Kentucky travel itinerary, Jefferson can still provide you a satisfying shopping experience. With a reasonably wide range of restaurants figuring inside the mall, your dining experience is also bound to be enjoyable.

Given the state of the economy and the travails that most malls across the United States of America are going through, you should even expect to strike some excellent bargains at Jefferson and those could be well beyond what you normally find in Louisville travel deals.
