Fun Reading for Baseball Fans - A Brief History of Louisville Slugger
Louisville Slugger is an iconic name in the history of Louisville Baseball bats and an all time favorite with Baseball professionals and aficionados. Cherishing its name in this genre for 120 long years, the company has come along a thriving, prosperous journey to become one of the leading manufacturers of Baseball bats and other sports equipments, much admired by great sportsmen of all times. But what is the interesting history that lies behind the unprecedented success of this company?
It all started with a zealous 17 year old boy John A. Bud Hillerich, who was engaged in the woodworking workshop run by his father - a flourishing business manufacturing stair railings, porch columns, swinging utter churns and the likes. Bud was a baseball buff and one day as he was watching a match by the famous Pete Browning of the Louisville Eclipse team, the latter's bat broke and Bud escorted him enthusiastically to his father's shop. The reluctant father, after much persuasion, relented to give his son the opportunity to fulfill his desire of crafting the bat. Bud, with Browning's direction manufactured a baseball bat which proved to be extremely lucky for the player.
What followed was only too pleasing and enthralling for the proud father, for his shop was thronged with professional baseball players after Bud's proficiency was much appreciated and elevated to great heights by Browning. This was the beginning of Louisville Slugger, registered under the same name with the US Patent Office in 1894. Later in 1916, a salesman by the name of Frank Bradsby became a partner and the company's name was transformed to Hillerich and Bradsby.
Today the company manufactures the best quality Aluminum, and Wooden Bats, Catcher's Gear, Batting and Fielding Gloves, Bags and what not. The technology used is simply outstanding with such advanced techniques as Exogrid Stiff Handle, Scandium Alloy, Spinlock Static Technology, Bionic Glove, Inner Socket etc applied to produce inimitable products.
Hence, had it not been for Bud's devotion, Baseball zealots would never have known the true potential of Louisville Slugger's bats.
