As an American Throughbred Horse Racig Museum, the Kentucky Derby museum is located on Churchill Downs. Established in 1985 to preserve the History of the Kentucky derby, it consists of two floors of exhibit space where the guests can learn about the breeding and training young Foals and where they can watch the films of the race since 1918 to the present day.

Since there are many activities to be engaged in once the guest has arrived in the Museum, it is essecntial that the guests properly plan their day. The guests can obtain and try a full day itinerary or may call the management to get a more customised itinerary that is convenient for their needs.

Guests will be treated to different types of tours when they visit the museum. One of the tours is the Historic Guided Walking Tour where they will be informed on the history of Churchill Downs from the stables to the property on the paddocks.They can also take the Behind the Scenes Walkin Tour, the Barn and Backside Van tour as well as the Horses and Haunts tour. It is important that the guests make their reservations in advance time and know that the tours can be cancelled as per the nature of operation of the track and live racing.

On September 27 and October 5, the Museum will be open for extended hours because of the Dusk at the Derby Museum in celebration of the World Equestrian Games where the guests can get to tour around the downs. On Nov 6, the Museum will hold the Breeder's Cup.
