The multipurpose arena at the Kentucky Exposition center is christened as the Freedom Hall, Louisville. The facility is owned by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and is popular as a basketball arena. The Freedom hall is home for the University of Louisville Cardinals men's as well as women's teams for over 50 years now. The Freedom Hall has also been home for the Kentucky Colonels affiliated to the ABA from 1970 till the ABA merged with the NBA in 1976.

While the Freedom hall opened in 1956, the facility was refurbished in 1984 including an addition of about 2,200 seats achieved through lowering of the floor. For the Cardinal men's basketball the Freedom Hall has been home since 1957 and they have won most of the games played here.

The Freedom Hall has regularly hosted a number of tournaments throughout its existence. The popularity of the arena can be gauged from the fact that during the 19967-97 season, the average attendance at the arena nearly touched the 20,000 mark, well ahead of its total capacity. Apart from Basket Ball, the Freedom Hall is also famous for the Kentucky State Fair World's Championship Hose Show. Interestingly, the Freedom Hall was designed for this event rather than as a Basketball venue. Every November, the arena also plays host to the North American International Livestock Exposition.

The Kentucky exposition Center which houses the Freedom Hall itself is among the 10 largest U.S. public utilities and is spread over a massive 400 acre real estate. The constructed space at the center exceeds one million square foot.
